Treatment : Players and Pawns

The treatment :

A boy wakes up in the park. He has no idea where he is, and has nothing except the watch on his wrist, the phone in his pocket, and the clothes on his back. A man walks towards him. He begins to speak to the boy, seemingly worried about him.
A hand is extended but as the boy tries to reach it, the man bends down and picks up his phone. and walks away not even noticing the boy.

The image of a clock suddenly appears and strikes 12.

The boy recoils and is thrown back into the grassy field. A voice. A voice appears out of thin air, and directs him. The boy struggles with the voice before accepting his fate. The mission is clear. Arrive at a certain place before 3.

The boy asks why he's being tested. how he ended up in this predicament as he's hunched over from his sitting position clenching his hair. his eyes shut tightly. his breathing increases and gets louder. the sounds mesh to such a loud ensemble of sounds. finally silence.

"You do not deserve an explanation."

The boy's eyes widen. see his face and suddenly shows his whole body, he in a new environment. an alley shrouded in darkness. he looks around realizing he's alone. his hands graze along the bricks of the alley and he looks around confused.

in the background someone appears and calls to him. a mysterious hooded person. with a yellow bandana covering their mouth. he speaks to the boy. telling him the directions to the place.

a flashback occurs. the boy suddenly clenches his heart and looks at the hooded figure. Juxtapose to the image of the man, an old memory plays. a man turning around, seemingly friendly. a smile that glowed with radiance. a yellow bandana hanging around his neck and revealing his face to the boy. A smile. Quick flashforward to the man grabbing the boy and demanding something in return.

Whispers something into the boy's ear, and then the boy looks startled. He reaches into his pocket and shows he has nothing. the man turns around and extends his arms, proving he cannot get pass. the boy pushes the man out of the way but runs into the imaginary barrier and cannot pass. the man grasps the boy's shoulder and throws him away.

the clock ticks towards 1.

the boy is walking out of the alley and into the street. He looks longingly down the street only to find himself alone. he keeps running. so much running. he finally sits down on the floor and looks pathetically at the floor.

the voice of the omnipotent voice echoes around in his head, he watches the people walk around him. a foot step in front of him. It's a girl. She offers him her hand. He asks and wonders why she could see him. She says nothing. Instead provides with her stuffed animal. He looks at her and accepts the stuffed animal. As she walks away a wallet is seen hanging out of her pocket.

Eyes. Wallet. Stuffed animal. clock. the boy's mind flashes between these ideas.

"I have no choice. I must know the truth."

The boy is running followed by the girl chasing after him. He looks behind but she's right on his tail. She trips and stares longing at him. Breathing heavily both of them.

He sees her but does nothing, simply mouth outs I'm sorry and runs back into the alley. The girl is left crying on the floor.

The boy runs into the hooded man and hands him the wallet. He smiles and moves to the side leaning against the wall. His smile is mixed with trouble and a mishevous smirk. The boy ignores it and keeps running away.

The clock ticks to 2.

The boy looks at his watch but continues running towards the destination. The boy can see the exit in reach however another man in a hood stops him. this time the man takes off his hood and this time it's a girl. She smiles. touches him on the shoulder and a flash-forward of the boy appears. The boy is standing adjacent to a man in a trenchcoat. the man smirking. the boy crying and clenching his stomach. drops to his knees. falls on the floor. man walks over. and puts something in his pocket.

The boy steps back. stunned at what he just saw. he reaches into his pocket and finds a phone. The woman looks sad. but disables the wall that prevented him. The woman says things to him.

"don't fail."

"why?"

the woman looks sad and looks away, and leaves the street. Boy continues running .

Clock ticks a few more seconds and the clock is juxtapose the video of him running and he makes in the last few seconds. Out of breath he collapses on the floor. and a man in a leather jacket appears and stares at him.

The boy stares back, thinking that he is the man with the omnipotent voice. incorrect.

"do you want to live."

"I am alive."

the man laughs a whole hearted laugh. the boy gets closer to the man. the man quickly stands in a battle position. and explains the details. "You've been entered in a game. the details will be displayed upon full agreement, if you choose to accept." The boy is confused but looks around. wanting to know the truth. He accepts. and the omnipotent voice returns.

"Well done. You've done a very smart thing by accepting this. Now dance for me."

The boy blacks out and returns to the park. The scene repeats and he screams into the sky. Knowing what he must do, but not knowing how long it will continue. He quickly runs into an alley.

in the distance a figure is watching. two men conversing about him apparently.

"Why do you torment his life?"

"because someone like him does not know how to live. It's up to him what he does with his remaining time. "

The two who were playing God suddenly disappear. and the boy runs into a girl. The boy tells her to get out of his way. The woman says the same thing.

"wait how can you see me?" the girl looks stunned. "wait you're a player. without a partner?"

"A What?"

don't you know? You're already dead."

"no" he says as he backs off. stumbling on the floor. "just the other day! i was...i was..."

the girl shook her head, an expression of sadness mixed in with pity. "We have to work as a team"

Flashforwards of them fighting together. Teamwork. Smiling. Happy scenes.

Their hands meet and they form their friendship.

Fade to black. Back to the god people sitting across each other on a table. "This is their world."

"I understand that."

"You shouldn't be meddling in affairs that do not pertain to you."

"But humans are such fragile creatures. They deserve a second chance..."

The man gets up and leaves.

" That is if they deserve it in the first place."

/no clear conclusion. under revision. needs more critiquing in order to come up with an ending that will satisfy the audience and more scenes to build up.

  2. This was worth reading. Exceptional theme, i had wished you ended it. If you could elaborate more on the story and pertain it to a fixed plot style,(maybe a flashback here and there)It would become more coherent. At the moment, it seems like the character is in a different location and different situation each time. This could be cleared up with a transition or explanation at the beginning of a new conflict. Asides from the missing ending, this treatment is awesome. ^-^

  3. It was a really well written treatment but it left me in confusion a bit.I thought it had a good amount of action and drama that balanced itself out. The whole god figure was the part that confused me because no body really knows what god looks like so I wouldn't know how to portray this in the film. Overall though it looks like something we could work with on our project. And I failed and had this comment written on my docs cuz I knew I was gonna run out of time and i forgot to post it hahaha

  4. This film could potentially be problematic and confusing. I like the idea of the story, but it would be very hard to pull off.
