Character in Time

The muffled cries in the room adjacent had finally quieted down. There a woman with a large trench coat stood there, her arms crossed with dissatisfaction. She didn't like her job, especially when it came down to this. High Profile Kidnapping wasn't something you could put on your resume. However this was the only thing she was good at, and the only thing that gave her life meaning.

The sounds of footsteps clamoring downstairs had made her snap out of her wandering thoughts.

She turned around, hands sliding down the old and tattered door. A silent prayer was said, followed by a held back tear. She looked down the hallway and saw the bright green exit sign. As she leaned closer into the door, the cries began once again and the woman lunged back. Her boots tipped over a silver suitcase, and with a smile she leaned down to pick it up.

Casually walking towards the exit sign, she pushed the door with one hand. Bright light. The sound of sirens and tons of police aiming their guns at her. It wasn't always like this though.

She remembered the countless summers she spent with her family. The stories they shared. The great feats and accomplishments all had individually achieved. A perfect family.

Quickly she broke left and jumped over the fence. The shots all missing her.

She remembered that she chose this life, and there was no turning back for her.

With the police following she ran through an alley. their flashlights focused on her as she ran faster. They had caught up with her and were right at her heels. One hand reached out to her,but quickly stopped as something in the distance turned green.

Suddenly people infested the streets, and it was impossible to find her. With the congested city life the police turned back. The woman, standing directly in front of them as well turned away. Only to meet another man in a trench coat. Their feelings were mutual, and they smiled at each other. His hand slipped behind her and hovered over her back. They walked away together, towards a large building.

The nozzle of a gun pressed against her back, she didn't much have a choice. Sometimes she really hated her job.
